As we enter Day 8 of Sugar Free Feb we are hearing and reading more and more about The Blood Sugar Diet (BSD). Expert Dr Michael Mosley is the voice of reason when it comes to improving blood sugars and being healthier. He says that the BSD is for anyone who is concerned about their blood sugar, already has raised blood sugar and wants to reverse it, needs to improve or reverse diabetes and wants to lose weight and stay healthy. Based on more than ten years of research carried out at Newcastle University, it is the first diet that in clinical trials has been shown to improve, even reverse, most cases of type 2 diabetes or prediabetes. It is all about getting rid of tummy fat and keeping it off. Everyone is different and no one diet is going to work for everyone, so this is not a single diet, but a set of options. The BSD is based on eating a low carbohydrate Mediterranean style diet. This contains few refined, starchy carbohydrates (because these convert rapidly to sugar in your blood), lots of green and coloured vegetables, plenty of protein and, pleasingly, moderate amounts of healthy fats such as olive oil, nuts, avocados and even some dairy products such as full fat unsweetened yoghurt to keep you feeling full for longer. Check out our handy infographic and remember to keep hydrated and drink chilled & filtered water, or fruit infused water. If you feel hungry drink a glass of water first, you may just be thirsty. We have some fab February offers on water dispensers for the home and office.
