Where did you get the idea to cycle from Lands End to John O'Groats?

Bath RFC completed the ride last year and because of my involvement at Gloucestershire RFC the opportunity came up for former players and friends to do it. I didn't hesitate because the route is prestigious and challenging – something else to tick off my bucket list.

How long are you anticipating this will take you?

The ride works out on average 108 miles per day, so we're aiming to have reached John O'Groats in nine days.

Why are you fundraising for Pied Piper? Is there a personal reason?

I have been on their promotional board for over two years now, and have been able to experience first hand the importance of their cause and the work they do. All of the proceeds raised will be going towards the care, attention and support of sick children.

Do you have any fundraising tips for others hoping to do a similar sort of fundraiser?

I've learnt that preparation is key, the earlier you start promoting your activity/cause the better. Also it helps to find an angle that's different. For example instead of simply asking people to donate, say ‘if all of my Facebook friends donate £1, I can raise £500', I think it appeals to people more in those terms. In addition I wouldn't solely rely on a website as a form of communication, some people like to write and sponsor in person.

Why did you choose to use MyDonate?

The company was recommended as a new option that gives 100% of funds to the charity, this naturally is an important and differentiating factor. I've also found that from a fundraising point of view, it's easy to use, manage and quick to set up, which is helpful for people like myself who have families and full time jobs.
