Save Water -Put Bricks in your Toilet and more....! Times are tight and we are all feeling the pinch on our finances. It is becoming essential to make things last as much as possible and creative thinking may help make your money stretch a bit further! We've asked around the office and here are some top tips from the Water Coolers Direct team on how you can save water (and money) around the home:
  1. Try putting a brick or a plastic container in your toilet cistern. The cistern won't be able to fill up completely with water and so you will save money every time you flush! Be careful when putting the brick in though, it shouldn't touch any of the flushing mechanism.
  2. Take showers instead of baths. This can save you a significant amount of money...
  3. ...But if you do have a bath reuse the water by watering plants
  4. Invest in a water butt for your garden and reuse rainwater to water your plants and garden rather than taking it from your outside tap
  5. Don't leave the tap running when you're cleaning your teeth
  6. Only put your dishwasher and washing machine on it is full – half load cycles use more than half the amount of water and energy.
  7. Only fill your kettle with the amount of water that you need, don't over fill it.
  8. Consider installing SUDS (Sustainable Urban Drainage System) into your driveway that harvests rainwater, cleans it and pumps it back into your house for reuse. Not only could you save money on your water bills but the system also helps to prevent flooding.
  9. When cooking, reuse the water that you cook your veggies in to make your gravy!
  10. Consider installing a water metre so that you are only paying for the water you actually use.
